The landscape scheme for the new terminal building at Ercan International Airport in Northern Cyprus covers a 201,700 m² site. It includes the main access routes and, from the entrance onward, the domestic and international departure and arrival entrances and the VIP entrance. It also features an outdoor Zen café and gardens where travellers can spend their time.
The terminal was built with modern, "smart" building systems, and the landscape was designed to the same standard. The site faces extreme temperature, humidity and rainfall conditions, intensified by global climate change. The central theme of the outdoor design is therefore drought-tolerant, xerophytic planting that can adapt to a changing climate, expressed through cactus gardens and Zen gardens.
